Modern men do not see God because they do not look low enough
Carl Jung
Look Closer
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to overlook the beauty that surrounds us. We rush from one task to another, our eyes fixed on the road ahead, rarely taking the time to truly see what’s right in front of us.
But the secret to finding beauty in this world lies in looking closer, in pausing and allowing ourselves to marvel at the mundane. For within the ordinary, the miraculous often resides, hidden in plain sight.
Consider the dew-kissed petals of a morning flower. At first glance, it’s just another bloom among many, easily overlooked in the hurry of the day. But if you take a moment to look closer, you’ll see the intricate patterns, the delicate hues, and the way each droplet of dew refracts the early sunlight, creating a tiny prism of colors. This isn’t just a flower—it’s a testament to the exquisite artistry of nature, a fingerprint of God left for us to find and admire.
The rustle of leaves in a gentle breeze, the sound we often dismiss as background noise, holds a symphony of whispers. Each leaf dances with its unique rhythm, creating a harmony that, if listened to, can soothe the soul. This natural music, so often ignored, is another reminder of the beauty that infuses our world, waiting for those who are willing to listen closely.
Even the most routine aspects of life, like a cup of coffee in the morning, can reveal hidden wonders. The rich aroma, the warmth seeping through the cup, the complex flavors unfolding with each sip—all these elements combine to create a moment of simple pleasure. It's in these small, everyday experiences that the divine often reveals itself, urging us to slow down and appreciate the gifts we've been given.
It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.
Children, with their boundless curiosity, often show us how to find beauty in the mundane. Watch a child examine a simple rock. To them, it's not a stone; it's a treasure trove of mysteries waiting to be uncovered.
They see the tiny crystals sparkling within, the unique shape and texture, the story it might hold. In their eyes, the world is full of miracles, each one worthy of wonder and exploration.
The secret, then, is to rekindle that childlike curiosity within ourselves. To approach the world with a sense of wonder, to look closer at the things we take for granted.
The weathered pages of an old book, the pattern of rain on a window, the silent beauty of a snowfall—these are not mere occurrences but expressions of a world rich with beauty, each moment a stroke in the grand masterpiece of life.
Everywhere we look, there are reminders of the divine. The smiles exchanged between strangers, the colors of a sunset, the laughter of friends—all these are reflections of a higher beauty.
They are the fingerprints of God, imprinted on the fabric of our lives, reminding us that even in the most ordinary moments, there is something extraordinary to be found.
So, let’s take a moment to pause. To look closer at the world around us. To find the miraculous in the mundane and recognize the beauty that often goes unnoticed.
In doing so, we not only enrich our own lives but also honor the intricate and wonderful world that has been created for us. For in the end, it's the little things, the everyday miracles, that remind us of the profound beauty of existence.

This is beautiful, mate. Thank you. I live on 300 acre farm and I work part time at a permaculture nursery. You'd think I would ALWAYS remember the beauty, but this human brain. Sometimes it gets too worked up about fixing the goddamn baler for a third time to remember how utterly gorgeous the wood-lined hay field is that I'm working in. Stop. Hear without listening; see without looking. This place is magical if we let it be.
Much love and respect for you and the work you do. Thank you.
My kids are toddlers and full of questions. Their curiosity keeps my wonder alive as I answer them.
