Dad's Learning Part 15 - 2: This Too Shall Pass, Darken The Room (A Continuing Series)
Part 15, Continued. And in the end, this too shall pass, and we will have part 16.
Time will pass and seasons will come and go.
Darken The Room
The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.
Oftentimes I will find myself unable to concentrate. The act of concentration has always been difficult for me when it’s necessary but not interesting. That’s a problem. But we worked through that issue a bit and developed a quick strategy.
Darken the room you’re in and shine a light on what you need to focus on. If you’re studying from a textbook, shine a light on the portions you’re attempting to read. Whatever you need to do, eliminate the distractions around you by taking them from your line of sight.
Cubicles can act as blinders for me. I am more productive when ensconced in my own cubicle during work than when I am in a conference room surrounded by peers. So, much like a horse, I need my blinders to obscure peripheral vision in order to buckle down and work.
This Too Shall Pass
Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
This one has been difficult to tackle. I will need to work on it more. There is wisdom for everything in those four words and I cannot wrap my head around it. So, as I write this, I realize I need to break it down into parts.
But how? And what parts? How do you break it down? This. Too. Shall. Pass.
It isn’t apparent the breakdown should be by word. But perhaps that’s the starting point, so as always, allow me the attempt.
This
In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.
This too shall pass. The first word. This.
So, whatever is happening, whatever we are going through in the present, whatever is being alluded to in the future, anything and everything that is happening, may happen or will happen, it will all pass.
Too
Study the past, if you would divine the future.
This too shall pass. The second word. Too.
Wow, this one hit me once I wrote it as the section header. Too. Also. This, as with all other iterations the have come previously, shall pass. What we are experiencing, what we may experience, it has been experienced before. It has been gotten THROUGH before. And those trials have come and passed before. So when we think something is too hard or a problem is insurmountable, remember “this too shall pass”. It is telling you that you can get through it because it has been overcome before.
Shall
Do the thing you fear most and the death of fear is certain.
This too shall pass. The third word. Shall.
I am astonished at each word in this phrase. How overlooked has this been recently? I use it often enough, but I have never taken the time to appreciate it how it should be appreciated. My goodness, how wonderful is this?
This trial, as with all the trials of the past, WILL INEVITABLY be overcome. There IS NO QUESTION. None. Shall. Full stop. I don’t know of a better confidence booster than that. Think about this: if you’re playing Mario and you are attempting to make a jump over a pit, there’s a chance it will not be successful. Compare that to watching a recording of yourself playing Mario. In this recording, you happened to be successful in your attempt. When you rewatch that recording, that attempt will be successful regardless of the number of times it is watched. You will make the jump.
This too SHALL pass. You WILL get through. This WILL end.
Pass
I will seize fate by the throat; it shall certainly never wholly overcome me.
This too shall pass. The last word. Pass.
End. Get beyond. Go past. Overcome. Overtake.
Pass is the culmination of this phrase. Wonderful.
This, as with all things, is destined to be overcome.
I will be dedicating much more to that phrase and how it parallels with passages from the Bible.
But for now I have to think more on how this was broken down here.
I cannot shake the feeling there’s so much more than I wrote so far in each word, so I cannot leave it alone.
Let me end with this. Some motivation.
It is my season right now.
Why can’t it be yours as well?
Listen to Sugar Ray Leonard.
I came from nothing and achieved humungous fame and fortune. But I worked hard. I had discipline and determination. I had that ice in me.
