One of the more difficult things to do with anything in life is getting started. This is true for me at least. And what seems to be just as or possibly more difficult is keeping consistent or developing a habit, even if it seems worthwhile or meaningful. I created this Substack as a tactic to create and foster a habit of writing everyday and writing meaningfully with purpose.Â
Now let's talk about this "tactic". It's something that seems to be missing from today's lexicon: accountability. Sure, we are accountable for our actions for the most part, but it appears to me as a society we have been moving more and more to excuse behavior or a lack of drive and success, tossing away any accountability people may have for their own actions or inaction. Excuses are the bane of any potential endeavor, though of course there will be things that are out of ones control at times. The problem though with excuses is when you quit because of the setbacks. Saying you were late to work because of traffic is one thing, saying you didn't come into work because of it is another thing entirely. One will be remediated by making sure to leave a little earlier the next time, so by learning from the setback. The other you may not be able to recover from because you just decided not to show up.Â
Where all this ties into accountability comes in publishing these publicly. That is, having people, whether they're paying attention or not, expecting something from you and knowing they have that expectation. This will hopefully help me continue my writing consistently that I want to get done for my children so they're not left in the lurch if for whatever reason I am not able to be around anymore for their questions or their big and difficult moments in their lives. I must get this done and you will help me simply by reading, so thank you.
I should add that the structure, flow, and grammar will get better as time goes on in this Substack. Currently I am forcing myself to get this done so focus and format is less important than production. It will improve, so stick with me.
